“In the last year Sri Lanka Ports Authority faced many challenges. Leading factors of Sri Lanka Ports Authority were privatized. In this year also we have challenges to face. As the Sri Lanka Ports Authority you have the responsibility to protect this institution. My responsibility is to make the Cabinet and the public aware about the required conditions to protect the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. I know that, in the conflicts on the Hambantota Port and in the collisions on bonus, we were able to provide solutions because of the reason, most of you were united. But i see this year as the most important year. It is important than last two years and it will be the decisive year of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. In one direction businesses getting reduce due to the absence of a deeper terminal. At the same time we have to face issues due to privatization of port. There are many controversial discussions on the development of the Eastern terminal. Conflicts regarding the Hambantota Port have increased. Therefore we should have energy to face these challenges. It is also a responsibility of you. I want to implement the Hambantota Port development project in a way, state owns a higher percentage, if we bring investors or privatize the port..............” Hon. Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga stated. Minister Ranatunga expressed these concerns while speaking at a ceremony held in the morning, today, on 17th to add New Year greetings for the employees of the ministry of Ports and Shipping.
“I don’t prefer to limit my responsibilities to a certain time interval. For the first time we have formed a government by unifying the two main political parties and all the races Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims. We should move forward as Sri Lankans. I am a Buddhist. But I haven’t blamed other religions. My parents teach me to respect all the religions. I learnt it from my school. If we practice this quality we will be able to bring this country to a better position.................” Minister Arjuna Ranatunga added.
