Shipping Corporation to see glory days

Moves are underway to bring the Ceylon Shipping Corporation Limited (CSCL) to its glory days aiming to contribute to the national economy, Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said.

With a view to becoming one of the key revenue generation institutions for the country, a five year action plan has been prepared, he added.

The minister was addressing media at the board room of the "Irenes Wisdom" ship, which docked at the Colombo port yesterday. The media briefing was held to mark the 44thanniversary of the CSCL.

In accordance with the action plan, it has been scheduled to acquire two ships - two Ultramax Bulk Carrier Vessels (63,600 MT DWT) in future. Of the two the first ship is scheduled to reach the country by November while the other will arrive next year.

Besides, it has been planned to acquire a tanker ship (Suezmax,135,000 MT DWT) to cater to transport crude oil requirements of the country.
