NISHANTHA MUTHUHETTIGAMA INTERVENE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GALL PORT.

A special attention has paid to catalyst the development project of the Galle Port, Deputy Minister of Ports and Shipping Nishantha Mutuhettigama stated. Minster Mutuhettigama stressed that all the possible steps will be taken to face challenges and to provide solutions for them when the initial phase is implementing. All of these development projects are implementing based on the Green development concept declared by His Excellency. He expressed these concerns while addressing a progress meeting organized on the title development of the Gall Port. This meeting was held in the Deputy Minister office of the ministry of Ports and Shipping on 23rd of March [today]. Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping Mr. L.P. Jayampathy, Wise chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Prof. Prasanna Perera, Managing Director Mr. Sarath kumara premachandra and several other officials participated to this meeting.

Gall City is a world heritage. In accordance with the standards of the UNESCO, when development projects are carrying out inside of an ancient city historical values of the city should be protected. Hence, already a plan has created to develop the Gall Port in a way it doesn’t create environmental pollution and harmful impacts on the land area. For this project funds will be allocated from the “JICA PROJECT “which is being implemented under Japanese funds. It is expected to construct the new wave breaker of the Gall Port through these funds. Increasing the depth around the piers, Construction of the piers, and expansion in the infrastructure facilities are to be implemented under Gall Port development project.

Gall city is well known for tourism, because it is a World Heritage City. Thereby initial plans have made to construct a Yatch Marina in the Gall Port. Nowadays 15 – 20 sail ships are arriving at the Gall Port for one day. Primary objective of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping is to provide guidance to enhance these rates. Deputy Minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama advised all the officials, to take technical support in the Cement production carrying out around the Gall Port for the sake of more environmental friendly industries. When cement manufacturing materials are unloading in the Gall Port, it should be carried out in a way it doesn’t spread particles to the surrounding environment, Minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama added. Many companies are ready to invest, to give technical support needed in the procedure of turning these industries and mechanisms more environmental friendly. Therefore Minister Nishantha Mutuhettigama who advised the officials said that agreements should be signed with these firms.
