Large vessel arrives in Colombo- Traffic jam in Port

Colombo Port became very busy yesterday due to the arrival of a large passenger vessel, “Genting Dream”. Vessel was anchored in the Eastern terminal. 1500 tourists arrived in Colombo Port. Thereafter 1500 local passengers were boarded in to the ship.

This is the world’s second largest passenger vessel. This vessel arrived in Colombo Port during its first visit in Asia. Vessel is on a tour from Mumbai to Singapore.This luxurious vessel has manufactured by German ship builder “Meyer Werft”. Later this vessel was assigned to Dream Cruises Company. This ship made her first voyage on 19th August 2016. This vessel has large number of restaurants, a Casino and specially designed cabins. “Genting Dream” has a length of 335 meters and a width of 40 meters. This vessel has a maximum speed of 23 knots and this ship belongs to premium cruise brand. This cruise vessel has a crew of 1999 and she is capable of transporting a maximum of 3352 passengers. This cruise liner was previously ordered as “Genting World” and later it was named as “Genting Dream”. The sister vessel of this ship will start sailing from 2017.

The opinion of the expertise in Marine industry is that the arrival of such vessels will be led to positive results in the procedure of promoting tourism industry.

In this visit to Colombo from Mumbai this cruise liner had transported 2000 passengers. Thereafter this cruise liner will be sailed to Singapore with 1500 passengers including locals as a specialty. There are passengers from various countries. Finishing this tour this vessel will be sailed to Honkong. Thereafter this vessel will be home ported in Guangzhou.
