M.I.C.S IS ONE OF THE PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE & MARINE INDUSTRY

 

Awards ceremony of Institute of charted shipbrokers [ICS] was held yesterday at the Cinnamon Lake side, Colombo. This ceremony was headed by the Hon. Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranathunga and Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dammika Ranathunga, and Chairman of the Ceylon Shipping Corparation Mr. Shashi Danathunga and several other distinguished guests were took part in this event. Contribution by Institute Of Charted Shipbrokers to enhance professional education is commendable, Minister Arjuna Ranathunga said while addressing this ceremony.

“I appreciate the services rendered by this institution in the past few years. This institution is carrying out programmes to develop knowledge of the personals relevant to the subject Ports and Shipping. Our government gives priority on education. It is a very important factor in the rally to build the country. Sri Lanka is the heart of the Indian Ocean. Therefore we are enhancing the marine sector by developing the marine education and training sector. Institute of Charted Shipbrokers [ICS] has good reputation in the world. To achieve the goals of the marine sector we need educated people with a good knowledge. I appreciate services carrying out by Institute of Charted Shipbrokers [ICS] on this matter. Ceylon Shipping Cooperation [CSC] has given a big contribution in task of establishing the Sri Lankan Branch of ICS. Also due to the programmes which are carrying out by ICS many marine students could get M.I.C.S certificate. It has opened the gate for the employees to be promoted.” Minister Arjuna Ranathunga added.

Institute of Chartered Ship brokers were started in 1911. It has the approval of the Royal charter. The task of issuing certificates of ICS has been carried out by this institution. Its Sri Lankan branch was commenced in 1987. This is the 23rd award ceremony conduct by ICS to present certificates. In this ceremony 08 persons were presented with certificates OF membership. In addition to that certificates were presented for the students those who were completed diplomas.
