The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has earned a record income of Rs. 40 million from auctioning over 50 decommissioned pool vehicles.
The SLPA Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga on the instructions of Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga auctioned the vehicles and 33 related equipment.
Earlier, all decommissioned vehicles of SLPA were sold through tender procedures but such sales had realised lower income to SLPA.
According to SLPA most of the vehicles that had been purchased during the period of the last government had suffered wear and tear within a short period of time causing a heavy loss to the institution. Minister Ranatunga earlier said that a thorough investigation would be carried out to review the losses incurred in purchasing such vehicles..
