Hambantota Port sees increase in transshipment

Hambantota Port sees increase in transshipment

Transhipment at the Hambantota port has increased by 42 percent when compared with last month. Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga after an inspection tour of the sea port said that transshipment from Hambantota sea port to other destinations has gained popularity among exporters in foreign countries.

He said that loan payments of the sea port can be covered from the income earned by the transshipment. The Minister said that a Chinese investor has expressed his willingness to invest in a ship related project at this sea port.

“The agreement will be signed soon to make it a reality”, he said.
