The highest ever
monthly container
throughput in the
history of the Sri
Lanka Ports
Authority (SLPA) has
been recorded in
June 2008 which is
170,971 Twenty-foot
Equivalent Units (TEUs).
Jaya Container
Terminal (JCT) of
SLPA has handled a
total of 147,958
TEUs this June while
the Unity Container
Terminal (UCT) has
handled a total of
22,687 TEUs for the
same period. All
other Quays of SLPA
have handled a total
of 326 TEUs for the
month of June, 2008
bringing this
highest ever
throughput of
170,971 TEUs in the
history of SLPA.
This is 3,287 TEUs
higher than the
previous highest
monthly throughput
which was 167,683
TEUs achieved in
March this year by
SLPA.
In total, the Port
of Colombo has
handled a container
throughput of
315,387 TEUs for the
month of June 2008
which is up by 19.6%
against the
container throughput
for June 2007 by the
Port of Colombo
which was 263,735
TEUs. With the
timely supervision
of the Minister of
Port, Aviation,
Irrigation and Water
Management Chamal
Rajapaksa, the
management of SLPA
has taken many steps
to elevate the
welfare standard of
all its employees
paving paths for a
better understanding
between the
management and the
employees of SLPA.
With the steps taken
to increase salaries
of the employees of
SLPA at regular
intervals, the
efficiency of the
employees has
further been
improved with much
dedication and
contribution towards
higher productivity
standards.
