Sri Lanka port lures Emirates Shipping Line

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has struck a deal with Emirates Shipping Line to call at Colombo port.

"The line is using Colombo as their hub port to serve the region,".

Emirates Shipping Line will call at the state-owned Jaya Container Terminal with which it has entered into a long-term, exclusive Terminal Service Agreement.

Emirates Shipping Line started operations in 2006 with several ships of about 3,000 20-foot container capacity.

The line is registered in Dubai's Maritime City in the United Arab Emirates and has commercial headquarters in Dubai and Hong Kong.

Emirates Shipping Lines services cover the Far East, India, Middle East Gulf and East Africa.

Its Gulf Indian-Subcontinent Africa service connects the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East with East Africa with a scheduled weekly service with short transit times.
