Born in 1956 to
parents who were
both teachers, Capt.
Nihal Keppetipola
completed his
studies at
Dharmaraja
College, Kandy
in 1975,
where he
excelled in
studies as well as
in rugby. Having
joined the Ceylon
Shipping Corporation
as an Officer Cadet,
Capt. Keppetipola
has sailed the
length and breadth
of all oceans on
sea-going ships
where he captained
almost all types of
vessels that include
general cargo,
container, bulk,
multi-purpose, oil
tanker and LPG
carriers.
A familied man who
needed to rest in
his tracks and be
land-based Capt.
Keppetipola then
took the opportunity
of joining the Sri
Lanka Ports
Authority (SLPA) as
a Harbour Pilot in
1990.
